In July of 1997, Rolande Celestin Fernandez, a native of Diègue, went back to that city to give back to her community. First, she started by providing training for "dula"? (help women give birth), then later set up a free clinic. The clinic was housed by two (2) containers. One for consultation, and one for storage. Some of the newly trained "matronnes" worked there, to educate the people about safety, and planned parenthood among other things. As they started to serve the whole community, they realized that many children just wondered around and did not go to school.

FRDHAITI is committed to building long-term community benefits for the people of Haïti. With 13 years of experience in humanitarian efforts, Mrs. Fernandez’ vision is to bring relief to the families where it is needed most. Please join us in this effort by donating to the organization. If you can help in any way, please do not hesitate to do so. As the Haitian theme goes: "L'union fait la force", meaning that we are stronger when we are united. Even if what you can do is very small, it will add up with what others may be doing and end up helping us greatly. Needless to say that Mrs. Fernandez started a school for the children of the area. Originally 12 students attended Ecole Rose-Mina de Diegue, today about 360 students attend the school. A daily meal used to be provided to the students after having several of them faint during class due to their empty stomachs and terrible heat, however with the harder times that have come our way, Fondation Rose-Mina de Diegue can no longer afford to feed these hungry children.
Additionally, as Mrs. Fernandez learned about the dangerous/negative situations of some of the students, she decided to take some of them into her home, thus providing them with a safe, positive and educational environment. The kids welcomed into her home were kids that their parents abandonned to grand-parents, kids that their parents cannot take care of them, kids that if they stayed with their parents would not have a chance at making a decent, successful living. Orphelinat Rose-Mina de Diegue started with just 1 child and is now hosting 80 children.
